How to Set Up Your ROOXIS 3K Outdoor Security Camera

Complete setup guide for the ROOXIS 3K 5MP outdoor security camera — from unboxing to your first live view.

How to Set Up Your ROOXIS 3K Outdoor Security Camera

Your ROOXIS 3K outdoor security camera (Model: RXC1) delivers sharp, detailed footage with 355° pan-and-tilt coverage, AI-powered detection, color night vision, and two-way audio. This guide walks you through every step from unboxing to viewing your first live feed.

What's in the Box

Before you begin, confirm your package includes everything:

  • ROOXIS 3K outdoor security camera (Model RXC1, with built-in PTZ motor)
  • Mounting bracket with ball-joint adjustment
  • Screw kit (wall screws, drywall anchors, and Allen wrench)
  • Power adapter (DC 12V/2A) with weatherproof cable
  • Quick start guide with QR code for app download
  • Regulatory and warranty card

Tip: Keep the original box and packing materials for at least 30 days in case you need to process a return or exchange.

If anything is missing or damaged, contact ROOXIS support before proceeding.

Step 1: Download the Smart Life App

The ROOXIS 3K camera is managed through the Smart Life app (by Tuya). This is the same app used by thousands of smart home devices worldwide.

  1. Open the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Search for Smart Life (look for the app by Tuya Inc. with a blue house icon).
  3. Download and install the app.

Note: The Tuya Smart app also works if you already have it installed. Both apps share the same platform and account system.

Step 2: Create Your Account

  1. Open the app and tap Sign Up.
  2. Enter your email address or phone number.
  3. Create a strong password (at least 8 characters with a mix of letters and numbers).
  4. Verify your account using the code sent to your email or phone.
  5. Log in with your new credentials.

Tip: Enable two-factor authentication in your account settings for added security. This prevents unauthorized access to your camera feeds.

Step 3: Power On the Camera

  1. Plug the power adapter into the camera's DC port on the back.
  2. Plug the other end into an outdoor-rated outlet or extension cord.
  3. Wait approximately 30 seconds for the camera to boot up.
  4. Listen for a voice prompt saying "Waiting for WiFi configuration" or similar. The status LED will blink red, indicating the camera is in pairing mode.

Warning: Only use the included DC 12V/2A power adapter. Using a third-party adapter with incorrect voltage or amperage can damage the camera and void your warranty.

If you do not hear the voice prompt after 60 seconds, press and hold the Reset button on the bottom of the camera for 5 seconds until you hear "Reset successful." The camera will restart in pairing mode.

Step 4: Add the Camera in the App

  1. Open the Smart Life app and tap the + button to add a new device.
  2. Select Security Camera from the device list.
  3. When prompted, confirm that you heard the voice prompt and the LED is blinking.
  4. The app will display a QR code on your phone screen.
  5. Hold your phone screen approximately 6 to 8 inches in front of the camera lens.
  6. Wait for the camera to scan the QR code. You will hear a confirmation tone when the code is recognized.

Tip: If the camera has trouble scanning the QR code, try adjusting your phone's screen brightness to maximum and holding it steady. A well-lit environment helps the camera read the code faster.

Step 5: Connect to WiFi

  1. After the QR code scan, the app will ask you to select your WiFi network.
  2. Choose your 2.4GHz WiFi network from the list.
  3. Enter your WiFi password and tap Next.
  4. The camera will connect to your network. This takes 30 to 90 seconds.
  5. You will hear "WiFi connected" and the LED will turn solid blue.

Warning: The ROOXIS 3K camera only supports 2.4GHz WiFi networks. It will not connect to 5GHz bands. If your router broadcasts a combined network, try temporarily disabling the 5GHz band during setup, or look for the network name that ends in "2.4G" or similar.

Common WiFi issues:

  • Make sure your WiFi password has no leading or trailing spaces.
  • Move the camera closer to your router during initial setup if signal is weak.
  • Confirm your router is not blocking new devices or has MAC filtering enabled.

Step 6: Mount the Camera

With the camera connected and working, it is time to choose a permanent mounting location.

Choosing the Best Position

  • Height: Mount the camera 8 to 10 feet above ground level. This height captures faces clearly while staying out of easy reach.
  • Coverage: Point the camera toward the area you want to monitor most. The 355° pan-and-tilt motor can rotate to cover other angles, but the default resting position should face your primary zone.
  • WiFi signal: Make sure the mounting location has a strong WiFi signal. You can check signal strength in the app after the camera connects.
  • Power access: Ensure the power cable can reach an outdoor outlet. Use weatherproof cable clips to secure the cord along walls or eaves.

Mounting Steps

  1. Hold the mounting bracket against the wall or ceiling at your chosen location.
  2. Mark the screw holes with a pencil.
  3. If mounting on drywall or masonry, drill pilot holes and insert the included drywall anchors.
  4. Secure the mounting bracket with the included screws using a Phillips screwdriver or drill.
  5. Attach the camera to the bracket and tighten the ball-joint to set your preferred angle.
  6. Route and secure the power cable neatly along the wall.

Tip: For the best weather protection, mount the camera under an eave or overhang. While the camera is rated IP66 weatherproof, overhead cover extends its lifespan and keeps the lens cleaner.

Step 7: Configure Pan & Tilt Controls

The ROOXIS 3K features pan and tilt (PT) controls for 355° horizontal and 90° vertical coverage:

  1. Open the live view in the app.
  2. Tap the directional arrows or swipe on the video feed to move the camera.
  3. Use pinch to zoom on the live view for digital zoom to get a closer look at specific areas.
  4. Tap the Preset button to save up to 8 favorite viewing positions. You can jump between these positions instantly.
  5. Enable Auto Patrol to have the camera automatically cycle through your preset positions at set intervals.

Note: The PT motor is quiet, but you may notice a faint sound during movement. This is normal and does not affect performance.

Step 8: Set Up AI Detection Zones and Alerts

Your camera uses AI-powered human detection to reduce false alerts:

  1. In the app, go to Settings > Detection Settings.
  2. Enable AI Human Detection to filter out alerts caused by animals, swaying trees, and passing vehicles.
  3. Tap Detection Zone to draw specific areas on the camera view where you want motion monitored.
  4. Set the detection sensitivity to Low, Medium, or High depending on your environment.
  5. Configure notification preferences: push notifications, in-app alerts, or both.

Tip: Start with Medium sensitivity and adjust after a few days based on the alerts you receive. High sensitivity works best for low-traffic areas; Low works better for busy streets.

For a deeper guide, see our article on Understanding Your Camera's AI Detection Features.

Step 9: Enable Two-Way Audio

The built-in microphone and speaker let you communicate through the camera:

  1. Open the live view in the app.
  2. Tap the Microphone icon to enable two-way talk.
  3. Hold the Talk button while speaking. Release to listen.
  4. Adjust the speaker volume in Settings > Audio Settings.

Two-way audio is useful for greeting delivery drivers, deterring intruders, or checking in on family members.

Step 10: Set Night Vision Preferences

Your ROOXIS 3K camera offers multiple night vision modes:

  • Auto: The camera automatically switches between color and infrared night vision based on ambient light levels. This is the recommended setting for most users.
  • Color Night Vision: Uses the built-in white-light LEDs to deliver full-color footage at night. Best for high-priority areas like front doors and driveways. Effective range up to approximately 10 meters.
  • IR (Infrared) Night Vision: Traditional black-and-white night vision using IR LEDs with a range up to 20 meters. Uses less power and does not attract attention.

To configure:

  1. Go to Settings > Night Vision.
  2. Select your preferred mode.
  3. Adjust spotlight brightness if using color night vision.

For detailed guidance on night modes, see our article on How to Set Up Night Vision on Your ROOXIS Camera.

Step 11: Connect to Alexa (Optional)

If you have an Amazon Echo Show or other Alexa-enabled display, you can view your camera feed with voice commands:

  1. Open the Alexa app on your phone.
  2. Search for and enable the Smart Life skill.
  3. Link your Smart Life account and discover devices.
  4. Say "Alexa, show me [camera name]" to view the live feed.

For full instructions, see our dedicated guide on How to Connect Your ROOXIS Camera to Alexa.

Step 12: Set Up Recording Storage

You have two options for saving recorded footage:

MicroSD Card (Local Storage)

  1. Insert a microSD card (up to 128GB, Class 10 or higher) into the card slot on the camera.
  2. In the app, go to Settings > Storage > SD Card.
  3. Format the card through the app if prompted.
  4. Choose a recording mode: Continuous (records everything) or Event-Only (records when motion is detected).

Cloud Storage

  1. In the app, go to Settings > Cloud Storage.
  2. Choose a subscription plan (free trial included with your purchase).
  3. Cloud recordings are encrypted and accessible from anywhere through the app.

Tip: For the most reliable setup, use both storage options. The SD card provides local backup in case your internet goes down, and cloud storage protects your footage if the camera is stolen or damaged.

Troubleshooting

Camera won't enter pairing mode

  • Press and hold the Reset button for 5 seconds until you hear the reset confirmation.
  • Make sure the power adapter is firmly connected at both ends.
  • Try a different power outlet to rule out electrical issues.

QR code won't scan

  • Increase your phone's screen brightness to maximum.
  • Remove any screen protectors that might cause glare.
  • Hold the phone 6 to 8 inches from the camera lens in a steady position.
  • Make sure the camera lens is clean and not covered by a protective film.

WiFi connection fails

  • Confirm you are connecting to a 2.4GHz network, not 5GHz.
  • Double-check your WiFi password for typos.
  • Move the camera closer to your router during setup.
  • Restart your router and try again.
  • Check that your router firmware is up to date.

Video feed is laggy or buffering

  • Check your WiFi signal strength in the app. If it is below 60%, move the camera closer to the router or add a WiFi extender.
  • Reduce the video quality setting temporarily to test if bandwidth is the issue.
  • Close other bandwidth-heavy apps or devices on your network.

Camera goes offline intermittently

  • Check the power connection for any loose contacts.
  • Verify your internet connection is stable.
  • Ensure the camera firmware is updated to the latest version through the app.

If you continue to experience issues after trying these steps, contact ROOXIS support with your camera's serial number and a description of the problem.
