How to Connect Your ROOXIS Camera to Alexa
With Alexa integration, you can pull up your ROOXIS camera's live feed on an Echo Show or Fire TV with a simple voice command. This guide covers everything you need to link your camera, discover it in Alexa, and start using voice controls.
What You Need Before You Start
Make sure you have the following ready:
- A ROOXIS camera that is already set up and online. If you haven't completed initial setup yet, follow our 3K camera setup guide first.
- The Smart Life app (by Tuya) installed on your phone with your camera added and working.
- An Alexa-enabled device with a screen for video feeds (see compatible devices below), or any Alexa device for audio-only alerts.
- The Amazon Alexa app installed on your phone.
- All devices on the same Amazon account that your Alexa device is registered to.
Note: You can view the live camera feed on any Alexa device with a screen. Alexa devices without screens (like the standard Echo dot) can still announce camera alerts and respond to limited camera commands, but they cannot display video.

Step 1: Enable the Camera Skill in Alexa
- Open the Amazon Alexa app on your phone.
- Tap More in the bottom-right corner, then tap Skills & Games.
- Tap the search icon and search for "Smart Life".
- Tap on the Smart Life skill from the search results.
- Tap Enable to Use.
- You will be redirected to a login page. Sign in with the same account credentials you use in the Smart Life app.
- Tap Authorize to allow Alexa to access your camera.
- You will see a confirmation message that the skill has been linked successfully.
Tip: If you also use the Tuya Smart app, they share the same account system. You only need to enable the Smart Life skill — do not enable both Smart Life and Tuya Smart skills, as this can create duplicate devices.
Step 2: Discover Your Camera
After enabling the skill, Alexa needs to find your camera:
- The Alexa app may automatically prompt you to discover devices. If so, tap Discover Devices and wait up to 45 seconds.
- If you are not prompted automatically, tap Devices at the bottom of the Alexa app, then tap the + icon in the top-right corner and select Add Device.
- Choose Camera from the device type list.
- Select Other as the brand and tap Discover Devices.
- Alexa will search for your camera. Once found, it will appear in your device list.
Note: Your camera will appear in Alexa using the same name you gave it in the Smart Life app. If you named it "Front Door" in the app, it will show up as "Front Door" in Alexa.
Step 3: Assign the Camera to a Room (Optional)
Organizing your camera into a room makes voice commands feel more natural:
- In the Alexa app, go to Devices.
- Find your camera in the list and tap on it.
- Tap the gear icon in the top-right corner.
- Under Room, select the appropriate room (e.g., Front Door, Backyard, Garage).
- Tap Save.
Step 4: View Your Camera with Voice Commands
Now you can use voice commands to view your camera feed. Simply say one of the following to your Alexa device:
| Voice Command | What It Does |
|---|---|
| "Alexa, show me the Front Door." | Displays the live feed from your camera named "Front Door." |
| "Alexa, show me the Backyard Camera." | Displays the live feed from your camera named "Backyard Camera." |
| "Alexa, show me the Garage." | Displays the camera assigned to the Garage room. |
| "Alexa, stop." | Closes the camera feed and returns to the home screen. |
| "Alexa, hide the camera." | Closes the camera feed. |
| "Alexa, go home." | Returns the Echo Show to its home screen. |
Tip: Use short, distinct names for your cameras so Alexa can recognize them easily. Names like "Front Door" and "Back Yard" work better than "Camera 1" and "Camera 2," which can sound similar.
Using Camera Feeds on Fire TV
If you are using a Fire TV Stick or Fire TV Cube:
- Say "Alexa, show me the [camera name]" while on any screen.
- The live feed will overlay on top of whatever you are watching.
- Say "Alexa, stop" or press the Back button on your remote to dismiss it.
Step 5: Set Up Camera Announcements (Optional)
You can have Alexa announce when your camera detects motion:
- Open the Alexa app and go to Routines.
- Tap the + icon to create a new routine.
- Under When this happens, choose Smart Home and select your camera.
- Choose Person Detected or Motion Detected as the trigger.
- Under Add action, choose Alexa Says and type a custom announcement, such as "Someone is at the front door."
- Choose which Alexa device should make the announcement.
- Tap Save.
Note: Camera announcements rely on your camera's motion and AI detection settings. Make sure detection is properly configured in the Smart Life app to avoid excessive or missed announcements.
Troubleshooting
Camera skill won't link
- Double-check that you are signing in with the exact same email and password you use in the Smart Life app.
- If you recently changed your password in the camera app, use the new password.
- Make sure your Smart Life account is verified (check your email for any pending verification links).
- Try disabling the skill, restarting the Alexa app, and enabling the skill again.
Alexa can't find the camera during discovery
- Confirm your camera is online in the Smart Life app. Open the app and check that you can see the live feed.
- Make sure the skill is properly enabled and linked (check under Skills & Games > Your Skills in the Alexa app).
- Try saying "Alexa, discover my devices" to trigger a manual search.
- Wait a few minutes and try again. Discovery can sometimes take a couple of attempts.
"Sorry, the device is not responding"
- Check that your camera is powered on and connected to WiFi.
- Confirm your internet connection is working on both your camera's network and the Alexa device's network.
- Open the Smart Life app and verify the camera shows as online.
- Restart the camera by unplugging it for 10 seconds, then plugging it back in.
- If the issue persists, disable and re-enable the Alexa skill.
Video feed is slow to load or freezes
- This is usually a bandwidth issue. Make sure your WiFi network has sufficient upload speed (at least 2 Mbps recommended).
- Move your Alexa device or camera closer to your WiFi router if possible.
- Reduce the camera's streaming quality in the Smart Life app temporarily to see if the feed improves.
- Check if other devices on your network are consuming significant bandwidth.
Camera shows a different name than expected
- The camera name in Alexa mirrors the name in your Smart Life app. To change it, rename the camera in the camera app first, then say "Alexa, discover my devices" to refresh.
- You can also rename the device directly in the Alexa app under Devices > [Your Camera] > Edit Name.
Warning: If you have multiple ROOXIS cameras, make sure each one has a unique name. Duplicate names will cause confusion when using voice commands, and Alexa may show the wrong camera feed.
Privacy Considerations
- You can disable the Alexa skill at any time to immediately revoke Alexa's access to your camera feed.
- Camera feeds viewed through Alexa are streamed in real time and are not recorded by Amazon.
- You can use Alexa Privacy Settings to review and delete any voice recordings related to your camera commands.
- If you share your Alexa device with household members, be aware that anyone with voice access can view the camera feed by using the voice command.
