How to Update Your ROOXIS Router Firmware
Firmware is the built-in software that controls how your ROOXIS router operates. Keeping it up to date ensures you have the latest security protections, bug fixes, and feature improvements. This guide covers how to check your current firmware version and apply an update.
Why Firmware Updates Matter
Each firmware release from ROOXIS can include one or more of the following:
- Security patches that fix newly discovered vulnerabilities. An outdated router is one of the most common entry points for network attacks.
- Bug fixes that resolve connectivity issues, improve stability, and address known problems reported by users.
- Performance improvements that optimize WiFi throughput, reduce latency, and improve how the router handles multiple connected devices.
- New features such as improved parental controls, enhanced Quality of Service (QoS) settings, or additional configuration options.
Tip: We recommend checking for firmware updates at least once every three months, or whenever you experience unexpected connectivity issues after a period of stable performance.
Step 1: Check Your Current Firmware Version
- Connect to your ROOXIS router's WiFi network or plug into one of its LAN ports with an Ethernet cable.
- Open a web browser and go to 192.168.10.1.
- Log in with your admin username and password. If you have not changed these, the defaults are printed on the label on the bottom of your router.
- Navigate to System > Firmware Info (or Administration > Firmware Update on some models).
- Note the Current Firmware Version displayed on this page. It will look something like
v2.1.4-20250115.
Note: The numbers after the dash represent the build date. For example,
20250115means the firmware was built on January 15, 2025.
Step 2: Download the Latest Firmware
- Open a new browser tab and go to rooxis.com/support/downloads.
- Select your router model (for example, AC1200).
- Look at the latest firmware version listed. If it is newer than the version currently installed on your router, click Download.
- Save the firmware file to a location you can easily find, such as your Desktop or Downloads folder. The file will be named something like
ROOXIS_AC1200_v2.2.0.bin.
Warning: Only download firmware files from the official ROOXIS website. Installing firmware from third-party sources can permanently damage your router or introduce security vulnerabilities.
Step 3: Apply the Firmware Update
- Go back to the browser tab with your router's admin panel at 192.168.10.1.
- Navigate to System > Firmware Update.
- Click Browse or Choose File and select the
.binfirmware file you just downloaded. - Click Upload or Update Firmware.
- A confirmation dialog will appear warning that the router will restart during the update. Click Confirm to proceed.
- The update process will begin. You will see a progress bar or status indicator.
During the update:
- The process typically takes 2 to 5 minutes.
- The router's LEDs may blink or turn off temporarily. This is normal.
- The router will automatically restart once the update is complete.
Warning: Do NOT unplug the router, press the reset button, or close your browser while the firmware update is in progress. Interrupting the update can corrupt the firmware and render your router unusable.
Step 4: Verify the Update
After the router restarts:
- Wait about 60 seconds for the router to fully boot. The indicator light should return to solid blue.
- Reconnect to your WiFi network (your network name and password are preserved during firmware updates).
- Go to 192.168.10.1 and log in.
- Navigate to System > Firmware Info and confirm the firmware version now matches the version you downloaded.
Tip: After a major firmware update, it is a good practice to clear your browser cache and restart your most-used devices. This prevents any stale network configuration from causing temporary issues.
Enabling Automatic Update Checks
Some ROOXIS router models support automatic firmware notifications:
- In the admin panel, go to System > Firmware Update.
- Look for an option labeled Auto-Check for Updates or Notification Settings.
- Enable this feature to receive a notification in the admin panel whenever a new firmware version is available.
This does not install updates automatically — it only alerts you when one is available, giving you full control over when to apply it.
What to Do If the Update Fails
If the firmware update does not complete successfully, try the following:
The router is still accessible
- Go to 192.168.10.1 and check the current firmware version.
- If it shows the old version, the update did not apply. Re-download the firmware file and try again.
- Make sure you are using a wired Ethernet connection (not WiFi) for the upload to avoid interruptions.
- Temporarily disable your computer's firewall or antivirus if it is blocking the upload.
The router is not responding
- Wait five full minutes — some updates take longer than expected to complete.
- If the router is still unresponsive after five minutes, unplug the power cable, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in.
- Wait another two minutes for the router to boot, then try accessing 192.168.10.1 again.
The router is stuck in a boot loop (LEDs keep blinking)
- With the router powered on, use a paperclip to press and hold the Reset button on the back panel for more than 5 seconds.
- Release the button and wait for the router to restart with factory default settings.
- Reconnect to the default @ROOXIS-XXXX-2.4G network and run the setup wizard again.
- Contact ROOXIS Support if the problem persists after a factory reset.
Note: A factory reset after a failed firmware update will erase all your custom settings. You will need to reconfigure your network name, password, and any other settings.
Firmware Update FAQ
Will I lose my settings after a firmware update? No. Standard firmware updates preserve your network name, password, and all configuration settings. Only a factory reset erases your settings.
How often does ROOXIS release firmware updates? Typically every 2 to 4 months, with additional releases as needed for critical security patches.
Can I downgrade to an older firmware version? Yes, you can install an older firmware file using the same process. However, this is not recommended unless specifically advised by ROOXIS Support, as older versions may contain known security vulnerabilities.
If you run into any issues during the update process, contact ROOXIS Support with your router model and the firmware version you attempted to install. We are here to help.
