How to Set Up Your ROOXIS AC1200 WiFi Extender
The ROOXIS AC1200 WiFi Extender delivers dual-band speeds up to 1200 Mbps, giving you reliable coverage in rooms where your router signal drops out. This guide walks you through every step, from unboxing to testing your extended network.
What's in the Box
Before you begin, make sure you have all of the following:
- ROOXIS AC1200 WiFi Extender
- 2x External Dual-Band Antennas (3dBi)
- Ethernet cable (Cat5e, 1 m)
- Power adapter
- Quick Start Guide
- Warranty card
You do not need any additional tools or software. The extender is configured through a web browser on any phone, tablet, or computer.
Step 1: Attach the Antennas and Choose Your Location
- Screw both external antennas into the threaded connectors on the extender. Hand-tighten until snug and position them upright.
- Plug the extender into a wall outlet that is roughly halfway between your router and the area where you need better WiFi. This midpoint position lets the extender receive a strong signal from your router and rebroadcast it into the dead zone.
Tip: You can always move the extender later. Start at the halfway point and adjust from there based on the signal-strength LED.
Avoid plugging the extender into a power strip or surge protector, as these can reduce performance. Use a wall outlet directly.
Step 2: Power On
Once plugged in, the extender powers on automatically. Wait approximately 30 seconds for the device to boot up. The LED indicator will begin blinking, meaning the extender is ready to be configured.
Step 3: Set Up Your Extender
You have two options: WPS Setup (fastest, takes about 30 seconds) or Manual Setup (works with any router, takes about 3 minutes). During manual setup, you will also choose the work mode: Repeater (most common) or Access Point.
Option A: WPS Setup (Recommended)
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup) is the fastest way to connect. Most modern routers have a WPS button on the back or side.
- Press the WPS button on your router. Hold it for 2 seconds, then release. Your router's WPS LED should start blinking.
- Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on the ROOXIS extender. Hold it for 2 seconds, then release.
- Wait up to 60 seconds. The extender's LED will turn solid blue when the connection is established.
- The extender automatically clones your router's WiFi name and password. It creates new networks with
_EXappended to your existing network name (for example,HomeWiFibecomesHomeWiFi_EXfor 2.4 GHz andHomeWiFi_5G_EXfor 5 GHz).
Note: If WPS does not connect within 2 minutes, the process times out. Simply try again from step 1. Make sure you press the extender's WPS button within 2 minutes of pressing the router's WPS button.
Option B: Manual Setup
Use this method if your router does not have a WPS button or if WPS did not work.
- Connect to the extender's default WiFi network. On your phone, tablet, or laptop, open your WiFi settings and look for a network named @ROOXIS-XXXX (2.4 GHz) or @ROOXIS-5G_XXXX (5 GHz), where XXXX is the last four digits of the extender's MAC address. The exact default name is printed on the label on the bottom of the extender. Connect to either one — no password is required for the default network.
- Open a web browser and go to 192.168.8.1 (or type home.to in the address bar). The ROOXIS setup page should load automatically. On some devices, the setup page pops up on its own after you connect to the extender's WiFi.
- Choose your work mode:
- Repeater Mode (recommended for most users): The extender connects to your router wirelessly and rebroadcasts the signal. Choose this if you want to extend your existing WiFi coverage.
- Access Point (AP) Mode: The extender connects to your router via an Ethernet cable and creates a new WiFi access point. Choose this if you want to add WiFi to an area that has a wired Ethernet connection but no wireless coverage.
- If you chose Repeater Mode, the setup page scans for nearby WiFi networks. Select your home network from the list.
- Enter your home WiFi password when prompted and click Apply.
- The extender restarts (about 20 seconds). Once the LED turns solid blue, setup is complete.
- Reconnect your device to your normal home WiFi network. The extended networks (
YourNetwork_EXfor 2.4 GHz andYourNetwork_5G_EXfor 5 GHz) are now active.
Note: If your phone prompts that the extender cannot access the internet and asks to switch to a better network, tap Disallow or No to stay connected. Otherwise, the setup will not complete.
Warning: Do not unplug the extender while it is restarting after setup. Wait for the LED to turn solid blue before moving or unplugging the unit.
Understanding the LED Indicator
The ROOXIS AC1200 extender has a single multi-color LED indicator that tells you what is happening at a glance.
| LED Color | Meaning | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Blue (solid) | Good signal — connected to router with strong connection | Great placement, keep it here |
| Yellow (solid) | Fair signal — connected but extender is far from router | Move the extender closer to your router |
| Red (solid) | Failed — not connected or expansion failed | Too far from router, or setup has not been completed |
| Blinking | Booting up or WPS pairing in progress | Wait for it to stabilize |
| Off | No power | Check the power connection and outlet |
Tip: Use the LED color as your placement guide. Move the extender until the LED is solid blue. This means the extender is receiving a strong signal from your router and can deliver good speeds to your devices. If the LED is yellow, the extender works but performance will be reduced — try moving it one outlet closer to the router.
Step 4: Optimal Placement
After initial setup, you may want to fine-tune the extender's position:
- Unplug the extender and move it to a new outlet.
- Plug it back in and wait for the LED to stabilize (about 30 seconds).
- The extender reconnects to your router automatically (no reconfiguration needed).
- Check the LED color — it should be solid blue for the best performance.
Placement guidelines:
- Keep the extender in an open area, not behind furniture or inside a cabinet.
- Position the two external antennas upright for the widest coverage area.
- Avoid placing it near microwaves, baby monitors, or cordless phones, which can cause interference.
- Thick concrete or brick walls significantly reduce signal — try to position the extender so the signal path to your router passes through as few walls as possible.
Step 5: Connect Your Devices
Once the extender is set up, connect your devices to the extended network:
- 2.4 GHz network:
YourNetwork_EX(your original 2.4 GHz network name with_EXadded) - 5 GHz network:
YourNetwork_5G_EX(your original 5 GHz network name with_5G_EXadded) - Password: Same as your original WiFi password
Your devices should automatically connect when they are within range of the extender. Most phones and laptops will switch between your main router and the extender automatically depending on which has the stronger signal.
Tip: Connect to the 5 GHz extended network (
_5G_EX) when you are close to the extender for faster speeds. Use the 2.4 GHz extended network (_EX) for devices that are farther away or need wider coverage.
Using the Ethernet Port
The ROOXIS AC1200 includes a 10/100M Ethernet port. Use it to connect devices that benefit from a wired connection, such as:
- Smart TVs for buffer-free streaming
- Gaming consoles for lower latency
- Desktop computers for a stable connection
Simply plug an Ethernet cable from the extender's Ethernet port to your device. No additional configuration is required. The wired device uses the extender's WiFi connection to your router, but eliminates the wireless hop between the device and the extender.
Tip: For more details on getting the most out of the Ethernet port, see How to Use the Ethernet Port on Your ROOXIS Extender.
Step 6: Test Your Coverage
After setup, walk through your home to confirm the dead zone is resolved:
- Run a speed test in the previously dead area. Open a browser and visit a speed test site. You should see download speeds significantly higher than before.
- Test streaming and video calls in the problem area. Playback should be smooth without buffering.
- Check multiple floors if applicable. The extender's signal radiates in all directions, so it can improve coverage above and below its location as well.
If speeds are lower than expected, try moving the extender one outlet closer to the dead zone and test again.
Troubleshooting
The extender's LED is red or off
The extender is too far from your router or setup has not been completed. Move it to an outlet closer to the router and ensure you have completed the WPS or manual setup process. The LED should turn solid blue when properly connected.
I cannot find the @ROOXIS network
Make sure the extender is powered on and has finished booting (LED should be blinking or solid). If you still do not see the default network, press and hold the RST (Reset) button on the extender until the LED flashes red. This restores factory settings and the default @ROOXIS-XXXX networks will reappear.
WPS pairing failed
- Confirm your router supports WPS and that WPS is enabled (some routers have WPS disabled by default in their admin settings).
- Make sure you press the extender's WPS button within 2 minutes of pressing the router's WPS button.
- If WPS continues to fail, use the Manual Setup method instead.
I set up the extender but my devices are not connecting
- Check that your device's WiFi is turned on.
- Look for the
_EXor_5G_EXversion of your network name. - Forget the network on your device and reconnect, entering the password again.
Speeds on the extended network are slow
- Move the extender closer to the router (LED should be blue, not yellow or red).
- Connect to the 5 GHz extended network (
_5G_EX) if your device supports it — the 5 GHz band offers faster speeds at shorter range, while 2.4 GHz covers a wider area at slower speeds. - Reduce the number of devices connected to the extender if you have more than 15 active connections.
- Make sure the external antennas are attached and positioned upright.
I need to reset the extender to factory settings
Press and hold the RST (Reset) button on the extender until the LED flashes red. The extender restarts and all settings are erased. You will need to run through setup again.
I want to switch between Repeater and Access Point mode
You need to reset the extender to factory settings (see above) and run through the manual setup process again. During setup, you will be able to choose the new work mode.
